Classic Bike Adventures sponsors the Alchi private school in Ladakh

We have been aware of the private school project in Alchi, Ladakh since 2005.
At first, we mainly engaged in "spontaneous sponsorship", passing the hat among our bikers when visiting the school.
We have especially fond memories of a major donation by Peter Volk, who gave the principal Mr. Morup Dorjay precisely 2,105.00 euros – money which he had previously collected from his colleagues in Germany.
We stay in regular contact to this unusual school project, observing the great progress it has been making whenever we stop in for our annual visits every summer. The school has come a long way, from a one-room schoolhouse in the rocky wasteland outside the village to a winter-proof complex with five classrooms, a small school garden, separate latrine and its own well. The school can now accommodate up to 100 students. As half of the students are orphans or from needy families, long-term support will be necessary in the form of sponsorships. The school bus is also essential, as the children live in remote villages, impossibly far away from the closest good schools in Leh or Srinagar.
We became long-term sponsors of four new students from needy families last summer thanks to the donations of our first Ladakh group of the season.
Our Zanskar tour member Ralph Aichinger spontaneously donated his EUR 500.00 deposit to the school, and the rest of the group chipped in another EUR 300.00.
We intend to expand our support, and our next project will be to build a small website for the school project to explain the purpose of the school and highlight its work in detail.
We would be delighted to hear from anyone who would like to contribute with donations, assistance in setting up the website, or help in organizing the supporter initiative.
