CLASSIC BIKE ADVENTURES ® - Spring 2012

Welcome to our spring newsletter.

Namaste, Tashi Delek, Julley, Sawatdee!

But first, a personal message from Road Captain Peter:

We’re kicking off the new riding season here in our new mountain home, the Casa Kath Kuni in Kullu Valley in the Indian Himalayas.

We had an amazing winter season and shared quite a few biking adventures with you on five tours through Goa and South India, two in Thailand and one in Sri Lanka. We also just successfully wrapped up the first of this year’s four Nepal tours.

In this newsletter, I’d like to focus on my absolute favorite tours through India’s Spiti Valley, also known as “Little Tibet”. I’d like to tell you about two tours we’re lining up for summer 2013. Both are pilot tours, the first of their kind, and I’d like to guide them both personally. Sri Lanka is also back in our regular program, and we have two tropical tours planned for 2013. Our grand 18-day Laos tour in February 2013 is going to be a special treat, and we still have a couple of bikes available for it.

Openings for 2012:
Our four 3 Lakes of Ladakh tours are booked solid, and only two bikes are still available on the Ladakh Overland tour in late June. The 2013 Ladakh tours are also filling up quickly – one is already fully booked.

In the autumn, we still have a couple of free bikes on one Nepal and one Bhutan tour. After that, it’s time for winter in the tropics – back to Goa, Thailand and Sri Lanka. We still have quite a few openings there.

Until then, we still have a lot of adventures ahead of us. I’m looking forward to seeing many of you again soon.
In the meantime, all the best from the “high mountains” of the Himalayas. Here’s looking forward to an exciting, adventurous and accident-free 2012 season.

RC Peter

To find out more about the route and tour price, please drop Peter a line. We already have five bookings, so the tour is definitely on.

For many years now, the Spiti Valley in the Indian Himalayas has been the insider tip and absolute favorite of our Road Captains.

In 2013, we’re offering two new tours into Spiti Valley, or “Little Tibet”: the

Grand Spiti – Lahaul – Ladakh Overland tour in June/July.

This tour will replace our classic Ladakh Overland tour, with a week more on the road and a lot more to offer.

Biking, trekking and relaxing – Himalayan tours around the Kullu Valley in Himachal and relaxing at Peter’s Casa Kath Kuni.

We’ve been living in our new home in the Indian Himalayas for nearly a year now. We’ve expanded our farmhouse and added a number of guest cottages. At the moment, we’re creating a beautiful garden and improving the driveway. We’re still going to need another year, but then we’re going to officially open our Casa Kath Kuni officially as a new destination and home away from home for our friends and guests.

In April, May and June 2013, we’re going to invite our Himalayan biker friends to our home in Kullu Valley to enjoy a bit of relaxation, biking, trekking, and exploring the fantastic mountain valleys of this most popular of all Indian Himalayan regions.

Himalayan regions. We have no doubt that you’ll feel right at home: we have three cottages, two double rooms – and up to ten Bullets, ready to roll. Here’s an album with impressions of our first year and the biker friends that came to visit:

Sri Lanka – Ceylon – the Isle of Serendipity

“Ayubowan” – Welcome to Sri Lanka

Explore this tropical island paradise in the saddle of our 250cc enduros and road bikes!

Sri Lanka, the island south of India, is famous for its long, palm-fringed beaches, balmy climate, and a sea rich with colorful tropical fish.

But that’s by no means everything the island state has to offer. We put together the best pictures of our latest tour in a Facebook album – just click here for an impression of the landscapes, natural beauty and extraordinary atmosphere of this island dream.

A tropical island paradise, it’s truly the “Pearl of the Indian Ocean”. With its 65,610 square kilometers, it’s about one and a half times the size of Switzerland, studded with stone relics of ancient cultures, and its fascinating landscapes are a contrast of coasts and highlands. And wherever you go, its inhabitants are incredibly welcoming.

This island is a dream: lofty inland hills covered with tea plantations and forests, and a coastline of long, white sandy beaches shaded by palm trees. And all around, the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean, as warm as a bathtub. Yes, Buddha had a special sense for life’s wonders. And so it’s not surprising that you encounter signs of him at every turn in Sri Lanka. And while the locals travel cross-country on their elephants, bikers can look forward to any number of narrow country roads that endlessly wind their way past the hills, rice paddies and temples.

It’s the perfect terrain for our immaculately maintained, nimble 250cc enduros and street bikes. There’s no doubt about it – paradise has been found, and it’s waiting to be explored.

So far, we’ve done six group tours and a number of exploratory trips through Sri Lanka, and unfortunately we had to pause for several years. Now, peace and harmony once again prevail throughout the island, and we’re back!

Our experienced team members are huge fans of this very special island – and we’re looking forward to sharing it with you on our tropical motorcycle adventures.

Let’s Enjoy the Art of Tropical Cruising...

The next tour dates are set, and Tour Maharani Tiz will be at the helm:

17 Feb. – 3 Mar. 2013 and 10 Mar. – 24 Mar. 2013

Northern Thailand Roadrunner’s Paradise Tours

We once again have three tours lined up for this coming winter. The November tour is already fully booked, but we still have openings in January and on the tour over New Years.

Now available: the 650cc Kawasaki Versys, a popular bike for tall riders and touring two-up (€200 additional charge).

Kawaski_Vergleichstest

We recommend this bike for very tall riders and for touring with a pillion. The additional charge for the Versys: €200.
This tour is now in its third year and it’s getting better all the time. A tour classic that’s been enjoyed by all, and we’re going to see to it that it stays that way. Here are the pics of our most recent Northern Thailand Roadrunner’s Paradise tour in December 2011:

As always, the 17-day November Bhutan tour will be starting in Darjeeling and Sikkim. Here are the pictures of the start of last year’s tour:
We already have seven bookings – three bikes are still available...
