Newsletter Autumn 2012

Namaste, Tashi Delek, Julley, Sawatdee, Ayubowan …

Let's start it of with a personal note from Roadcaptain Peter:

Autumn has begun and we are reporting from our Himalaya-home,"Casa Kath Kuni" in the Kullu Valley near Manali..

That`s where we live between our tour engagements in the Himalayas. For a couple of years now we also have our second bike workshop up here.

During this summer we have successfully organized and completed five Ladakh Tours. 15-20  bikes have climbed the highest passes that are to be found in he Himalayas. Up to 100 bikers enjoyed these tours last summer.

Already our autumn schedule is in full swing, three tours in Nepal and three in Bhutan have to be planned and executed, all of those tours have long since been fully booked. Recently our Mustang Pilot Tour reached their destination, the holy temple city of Mukthinath. These tour is a big success and will be on the 2013 program again, the dates are fixed : 27.10. - 10.11. 2013. The best pictures from the first tour you can watch here in our Facebook Album.

However, my all-time favourite tours into Indian Spiti Valley, also referred to "Little Tibet" are not happening.

Originally two tours had been scheduled for September 2013 and June 2014, but due to lack of interest, they are being cancelled as for now. Rest assured that at some later stage those pilot tours, neither of which has been done in this form so far, will be offered again.

I would like to personally guide those two tours. In September 2013, I am going to guide a "special friends" tour, namely the "three lakes of Ladakh tour". Final destination will not be Leh this time, but our "Casa Kath Kuni" farm in the Kullu valley. The tour will last three weeks.
I already found seven friends who are looking forward to do this.

As of now the Sri Lanka tours are again bookable, directly through "Motorrad Action Team". Two "Tropical Ceylon Tours" are planned for February and March 2013. Our reputable Tiziana will guide both of those.

For the next year the Sri Lanka tours have taken the spot, where Magic Nepal Tour had been offered in the past by "Motorrad Action Team".

In this newsletter we will present the links to thewrite-ups about our bike tours in South India (Motorrad 1.2012) and North-Thailand (Tourenfahrer6.2012) both are in German, plus the link to our best Tibet Tour pictures.

Shiva and Ganesha done up

We are also introducing our next Tibet Pilot Tour 2013 featuring adventurous new routes and new highlights along the way.
We are set to explore this fascinating land in the Himalayas even further to the east up to Tibet (Chamdo), so stay tuned...

Last open bookings for winter 2012-2013:
With winter around the corner, why not think about "Tropical Biking" in Goa, Thailand or Sri Lanka. We still have some "room" there...Even the North-Thailand Tour around New Year has a few free bikes left.

As you can see there are many more biking adventures for you to experience and as for myself I am looking forward to see many of you again and again.

Until then, best biker greetings from "The Valley of Gods" in Himachal Pradesh. You all take care and enjoy a relaxed end of season.

Euer RC Peter

SRI LANKA - Ceylon - island of happiness

"Ayubowan" - Welcome to Sri Lanka
Discover this biker's island paradise riding our fine 250ccEnduros and road bikes!

Sri Lanka, an island situated to the South of India is renown for its palm beaches, tropical climate and a sea that has an abundant marine life.

Of course that's not all, there are plenty of other highlights.

We took the best pictures from our recent biker tour into a Facebook album, so you can get an idea of the beautiful landscape, natural beauty and the very special atmosphere of this island of dreams.   >>> zum Facebook-Album Sri Lanka 2012
Sri Lanka is a tropical island paradise and it is called "The Pearl of the Indian Ocean" not without reason. Covering an area of 66.610 square kms itis one and a half times the size of Switzerland featuring numerous heritage sites of old cultures and there is a fascinating contrast between the coast and the mountain regions. Everywhere you go people are extremely friendly and hospitable.

The island is simply a dream: high mountains in the hinterland, covered with jungles and tea plantations, long white, sandy beaches with the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean, always at bath tub temperature. You might assume that Buddha had a special sense for the beauty in Life.
Therefore you find tracks of him all over the island. The locals, riding their elephants, manage to get to almost anywhere, whereas we on our motorbikes take the narrow metalled roads that wind along the mountains, through the rice paddies passing the numerous temples - a sheer endless riding pleasure.
Just the right terrain for our well maintained and easilymanoeuvrable250ccEnduros and road bikes.

At an easy speed we bend around the curves, new sites to be seen at every turn. This simply proves, that not only paradise has been re-discovered, no, you can actually drive through it.
Up to now we have organized six bike tours with groups plus some reconnoitring outings on Sri Lanka. Unfortunately there were some years in between where it was not advisable to do so. Now there is peace and harmony on the island - and we are back!

Our team is very experienced and simply delighted about this very special island. We are looking forward to do some more tours with you!

Grand Tibet motorbike roundtrip - Pilot Tour

The dates are fixed: 28th of May - 12th of June 2013 (17 days)

An extension of our pilot tours of 2012 - with a side trip to south-eastern central Tibet, a partly forested Kham at just under 3.000m (highlights are:Draksum Lake, Tashi Gang and the Serkym pass, plus Chongye, the "Valley of the Tombs of Kings".
Eight overnight stays at hotels in Tibetan heritage hotels and seven campsite overnight stays in tents are planned. We have our own Nepali camp crew that cooks our lunches.
Thus we can really stop and camp at the nicest of places. On this tour we will be visiting the wild Kharta valley, right at the foot of Mount Makalu for the first time. The tour ends in Kathmandu.
From there we will be cruising downwards from Mount Everest base camp to the Tibet-Nepal border where we stay overnight in the "Last Resort".

As always we do this tour exclusively with our trusted Bullets 500cc.
This will be the best Tibet routing ever! Flights from Kathmandu to Lhasa are already included in the price.

We will have more time to get acclimatized this time, climbing up to 4.000m only after eight days, which makes it comfortable for everybody, even for the "flatlanders", no dizziness or headaches....

Tour price for bikers 4.950€ and 4.450€ for pillion drivers who can always choose to ride in the jeep for a change.

Flights from Europe to Kathmandu are Extra.

Biking, Trekking, Relaxing

Himalaya tours in and around the Kullu valley in Himachal Pradesh

with a relaxing time at Peter's Casa Kath Kuni

For almost a year now we reside in our new home in the Indian Himalayas.

Our farmhouse has seen some extensions and we are doing some landscaping for our garden and we also made the place more accessible from the road above. We figure it will take us another year to be fully operational and to be able to "officially" offer "Casa Kath Kuni" as a travel destination and biker meeting point to our friends and guests.

As a premiere, in April, May and June 2013 we will invite our Himalaya biker friends to come here to relax , do some biking and trekking especially to explore the fascinating neighbouring valleys in this most sought after of Indian regions in the Himalayas.

The Link :

One thing we are sure of: You will have a great time with us, we have two double rooms and three cottages. There are up to ten Enfield Bullets at your disposal at all times. Here is an album with some impressions from last year, when we already had some biker friends up here.

The "official" Classic Bike Adventures - Blog alive and rather entertaining and sometimes really funny

This for once is in English! :

Peter has posted 27 blognews and got 1.800 clicks so far...
The last posting is a true story and very bizarre:

How Peter got to spend a night in an Indian jail for allegedly cutting down a tree - which he did not!

Here you can earn good "Karma points":

Latest news about our project to help seven orphaned siblings in Nagar, Kullu valley.

Their mother died giving birth to her seventh child, the kids are now between four and 14 years old, all are attending the local primary school, their grandparents taking care of them.

Recently their father died in a working accident in the forest, of course he was uninsured. The family is in dire straits.

What to do? The children need regular support so that they can still attend school, otherwise the eldest would have to leave and look out for a job in the "unskilled labour" sector to feed his younger brothers and sisters.

I took it upon myself to get them through the first couple of months. By now we have found four partners, who in a combined effort, will make sure there will be 200€ coming towards them per month to guarantee the family's well being and survival and give the kids an education to become self reliant at some later stage.

Here is a link in English to Peter's blog:

Those of you who feel inclined to support project that is genuinely making sense, do write to Peter to get more information about this.

His personal email is: <Diese E-Mail-Adresse ist vor Spambots geschützt! Zur Anzeige muss JavaScript eingeschaltet sein!>

Latest news. In September and October as you are reading this, we managed to get 1.600€ . Thank you all, you know who you are. The project: "Help those that they can help themselves" can start as scheduled next February.
