A Majestic Journey

The Royal Rajasthan Motorcycle Tour

Our Royal Rajasthan motorcycle tour in November 2024 was an unforgettable adventure for twelve passionate motorcyclists. This tour, chosen by most participants for its comfortable accommodations and cultural highlights, took us deep into the heart of Rajasthan. The routes were well-maintained and easy to navigate, making the journey especially appealing to riders who prefer a less demanding route. Comfort, hospitality, and service were top-notch: “My chai wasn’t even cold yet, and the flat tire had already been changed,” said one of our participants after our mechanic team replaced their flat tire within 5 minutes of stopping at a little café on the side of the road.

Arrival in Rajasthan: Welcome to the Land of Kings

Upon arriving in India, the senses are overwhelmed by a symphony of impressions. The spicy aroma of curry and cumin, the vibrant colors of saris and turbans, and the bustling sounds of markets and street vendors leave no doubt that a unique, fairy-tale adventure lies ahead. The journey began with an arrival at Delhi Airport and a transfer to Mandawa. This city, known for its royal palaces and luxurious atmosphere, offered a first glimpse of Rajasthan’s opulent past. After a warm welcome at Mandawa Castle, we enjoyed dinner under the starlit sky, accompanied by the aroma of freshly prepared Indian delicacies. The transfer on the first day covered approximately 255 km.

Starting the Royal Enfield Ride: Exploring Shekhawati

Day two focused on exploring the Shekhawati region. Riding our custom 500cc Royal Enfield Bullets through picturesque landscapes, we visited the famous havelis (traditional mansions) of Mandawa. The first 80 kilometers challenged our skills with lively roads and nearby gravel paths. The day ended with a delicious dinner at the picturesque Mandawa Castle.

From Mandawa to Bikaner: Encountering Wildlife

On the third day, we rode to Bikaner and stayed at the heritage palace hotel Gaj Kesri. Along the way, we stopped at Tal Chappar, home to the Blackbuck Wildlife Sanctuary, where we spotted exotic antelopes. The 200 km ride offered a perfect mix of culture and nature, ending in the luxurious ambiance of our hotel.

Bikaner to Osian: A Day in the Desert

Day four took us to Osian, with a visit to the unique Karni Mata Temple, also known as the Rat Temple. In Osian, we stayed in a desert camp and enjoyed a stylish dinner under the desert sky. Along the way, we encountered quirky vehicles that left us wondering whether to be amused or amazed by the local ingenuity.

Jodhpur: The Blue City

On the fifth day, we arrived in Jodhpur, the Blue City, where we explored the impressive Mehrangarh Fort. As we drove through the lively streets, the walls surrounding us glowed in different shades of blue. The short 70 km ride allowed us to unwind at the Polo Heritage Hotel and relax by the pool.

Ranakpur: Green Valleys and Jain Temples

Day six took us past the Bullet Baba Shrine, where a sacred motorcycle is on display, before continuing through the lush valleys of the Aravalli Range to one of the most impressive Jain temples on the subcontinent. Built in the 15th century, the temple is known for its elaborate marble sculptures and boasts 1,444 intricately designed marble pillars which support the main hall, reflecting spiritual and artistic mastery of Jain architecture. They tell of a man’s dreams with incredibly finely crafted details. Our stay at the historic Ghanerao Castle included a warm traditional welcome with flower garlands and the receival of a ‘Bindi’ – a decorative mark on the forehead believed to be venerating an energy center of the human body or representing ‘the third eye’.

Udaipur: The City of Lakes

Our seventh stage led us to Udaipur, one of India’s most beautiful cities. Known for its palace hotels and picturesque streets, Udaipur offered a deep dive into Rajasthani art and craftsmanship. We stayed at Udai Kothi Heritage Hotel by Lake Pichola, enjoying a spectacular evening view of illuminated palaces while savoring the flavors of Indian spices together.

Chittorgarh: The Pride of Rajasthan

On day eight, we visited the majestic Chittorgarh Fort, a symbol of Rajput courage and valor. Spanning 700 hectares atop a 180-meter hill, the fort features numerous palaces, temples, and the impressive Vijay Stambh a nine-story tower built in the 15th century. After a 160 km ride and a day full of discoveries, we rested at the charming Bijaipur Castle, a 16th-century fort turned hotel.

Bundi: An Architectural Oasis

One ninth stage took us to Bundi, a charming town known for its elegant mansions, magnificent palaces, and ancient stepwells. The city’s blue and green hues, combined with floral and spice aromas, created a dreamlike atmosphere. Of particular note is the Taragarh Fort, which towers over the city and offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape. We stayed at the Hadoti Palace, soaking in the historic charm. The day’s ride covered about 150 km.

Ranthambhore National Park: On the Trail of Tigers

On day ten, we rode 150 km to Ranthambhore National Park, where we embarked on a safari the following day. If fortune favours us, we could come across tigers, hyenas, bears and elephants among many other animals. As it would happen, luck was on our side! We spotted a tiget up-close filling us with fascination and respect for this majestic animal – what a great experience! We stayed at Nahargarh Palace Hotel for both nights, surrounded by the sounds of the jungle.

Farewell Ride: From Ranthambhore to Bharatpur

Day twelve marked our final ride on the Royal Enfield Bullets. Covering 230 km to Bharatpur, we enjoyed the diverse landscapes of Rajasthan one last time. The colourful markets and the scents of spices and incense accompanied us on the journey. We stayed at the Palace Hotel Lakshmi Niwas.

Taj Mahal: A Crowning Conclusion

The tour concluded with a visit to the Taj Mahal, India’s most iconic and stunning monument. Built in the 17th century by Emperor Shah Jahan as a mausoleum for his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal, the Taj Mahal is a symbol of eternal love. The white marble, decorated with semi-precious stones, reflects the light in a way that makes the Taj Mahal appear different at any time of the day. After a tour of this impressive structure, we visited the nearby Red Fort, another testament to the power and splendor of the Mughal era. After a final meal together, we bid farewell, taking home unforgettable memories of Rajasthan’s rich culture, breathtaking architecture, and wild landscapes. The blend of adventurous motorcycle stages and luxurious accommodations made this journey a fairy-tale experience, leaving us eager for more.
