This extraordinary motorcycle journey takes you through some of the most breathtaking landscapes on the African continent. Starting from the Indian Ocean in Mombasa, the route connects thousands of kilometres of savannah, highlands, tropical mountain forests, and the arid landscapes of southern Africa – a journey of contrasts, encounters, and intense impressions. From the very first days, the silhouette of Kilimanjaro accompanies the ride through the open plains of Kenya. The route leads past major national parks and lake landscapes into the green hills of Uganda and Rwanda. Winding mountain roads alternate with remote dirt tracks, while ever-new perspectives on East Africa’s landscape unfold around every bend.
Further south, the panorama of Central Africa opens up. The route leads to the mighty Lake Tanganyika and through the vast, sparsely populated regions of Tanzania and Zambia. Long riding days on varied roads alternate with encounters with local culture and stunning natural experiences. Another highlight is Victoria Falls on the Zambezi, before the route continues into the dry expanses of Botswana. The final stages lead through the Kalahari region, along Namibia’s Atlantic coast, and finally through the diverse landscapes of South Africa. With every stage, Africa’s face changes – from open savannahs to vast semi-deserts and the lush coastal regions around Cape Town.
This tour combines legendary motorcycle routes with unique natural experiences. It is a journey through diverse cultures, landscapes, and climate zones – offering the rare opportunity to experience the African continent in all its diversity on two wheels.

- Victoria Falls on the Zambezi: Victoria Falls ranks among the greatest waterfalls on Earth and is a highlight of any Africa adventure.
- Okavango Delta: The Okavango Delta is one of Africa’s most extraordinary natural regions. An excursion into the Moremi Game Reserve offers the chance to observe numerous wildlife species.
- Namib Desert and Sossusvlei: The famous red sand dunes of Sossusvlei are among the most spectacular landscapes on the continent.
- Namibia’s Atlantic Coast: The ride to Swakopmund combines desert and ocean – an unusual blend of coastal climate and desert scenery.
- Cape Town and the Cape Peninsula: The journey’s finale leads to Cape Town, with views of Table Mountain and the spectacular coastal landscapes of the Cape region.
The route is mostly well-maintained and paved. Two-lane roads alternate with small, sometimes single-lane mountain roads. Drivers should be accustomed to safely navigating hairpin turns and narrow, quickly changing curves. Highways are not taken.
Some sections, up to full day stages, are unpaved. In addition to good gravel roads, some stretches may have potholes and bumps. Certain areas may be covered with sand or pebbles, and there are moderate inclines on unpaved road surfaces. The off-road/paved ratio is approximately 20/80.
Including breaks, photo stops, and sightseeing, but excluding a lunch break, which lasts about one hour. On regular days, we start in between 8-9am and arrive at the tour hotel in the afternoon. Average times: Approximately 6-7 hours per day

Africa Motorcycle Tour – Itinerary
Day 1: Mombasa, Kenya
The adventure begins in Mombasa on the coast of the Indian Ocean. After arrival, the group meets the organising team and the mechanic who will accompany the expedition all the way to Cape Town. The day is dedicated to introductions, a briefing on the itinerary, and discussing logistics. There is also time to settle in and soak up the first impressions of this tropical coastal city. In the evening, the group gathers to set the tone for the stages ahead.
Day 2: Mombasa, Kenya
The second day is all about arriving and preparing for the overland journey ahead. The group has the opportunity to acclimatise, sort out any logistical details, and make final checks on the bikes. There is also time to relax on the beaches of the Indian Ocean or stroll along the coastline. The relaxed atmosphere is a great chance to get to know your fellow riders. By evening, all eyes are already on the first riding stage.
Day 3: Mombasa – Voi
The first riding stage heads from the coast into Kenya’s interior. On the Mombasa–Nairobi Highway, the group leaves the tropical coastal region behind and rides through increasingly dry landscapes towards Voi. The route already gives a first impression of the vast plains of East Africa. The day’s destination is a lodge near the Tsavo area, where the first riding day winds down in a peaceful setting.

Day 4: Voi – Amboseli
Today’s stage takes you through the open savannah landscapes of southern Kenya towards Amboseli. On quiet roads, the group rides through wide plains with views of Kilimanjaro, whose snow-capped summit is often visible from a great distance. Long sweeping bends and wide straights alternate as the landscape becomes increasingly wild. Small villages, cattle herds, and wildlife appear at the roadside. By afternoon, the group reaches the area around Amboseli National Park.
Distance: approx. 220–320 km
Day 5: Amboseli
The day is dedicated entirely to the wildlife of Amboseli National Park. Morning and afternoon game drives are planned, offering the chance to observe elephant herds, antelopes, and many other animals. The park is especially known for its open plains with views of Kilimanjaro. Between activities, there is time to absorb the atmosphere of the landscape. The evening is spent once again at the camp on the edge of the reserve.
Day 6: Amboseli – Nairobi
In the morning, the group leaves the plains around Amboseli National Park and heads back via Emali onto the Mombasa–Nairobi Highway. The route passes through the wide landscapes of southern Kenya, gradually approaching the capital. As Nairobi draws closer, traffic increases and the scenery changes noticeably. By afternoon, the group reaches Nairobi, the economic heart of the country. The evening is free, offering time to reflect on the first days of the journey.

Day 7: Nairobi – Naivasha
After leaving Nairobi, the route climbs into the highlands of the Great Rift Valley. The road winds through the slopes of the Rift Valley, offering breathtaking views across the valley at every turn. Riders enjoy an engaging combination of curves and elevation changes. As altitude increases, the landscape becomes greener and cooler. The destination for the day is Lake Naivasha, one of the most beautiful lakes in the region.
Distance: approx. 90 km
Day 8: Naivasha – Kitale
The stage continues north through Kenya’s highlands. Via Nakuru and Eldoret, the route follows varied roads through agricultural regions and small towns. The landscape changes constantly, showcasing the diversity of central Kenya’s highland country. The day’s destination is Kitale, near the border with Uganda, where the group prepares for the upcoming border crossing.
Distance: approx. 310 km
Day 9: Kitale – Jinja, Uganda
In the morning, a short stage leads from Kitale to the Suam border crossing between Kenya and Uganda. The route passes through green highland landscapes on the edge of the Mount Elgon area. Border formalities are completed and the Kenyan guide bids farewell. After crossing the border, the group meets the Ugandan guide who will lead the next section of the journey. The route follows the green slopes of the Mount Elgon area via Mbale through a scenically rewarding highland region. Small towns, fields, and lush vegetation characterise this part of Uganda. The route continues south to Jinja on the shores of Lake Victoria. The city is regarded as the source of the Nile and marks the end of the first riding day in Uganda.

Day 10: Jinja
The rest day in Jinja offers a welcome break after the first stages of the journey. The town sits directly on Lake Victoria and is known for its laid-back lakeside atmosphere. Optional excursions on the lake are available, such as boat trips or fishing outings. A walk along the Nile is also a great option. The day is primarily for rest and preparation for the longer stages ahead.
Day 11: Jinja – Fort Portal
Today brings a long and varied stage right across Uganda. The route first heads towards Kampala and then westward, where the landscape becomes increasingly hilly. Along the way, lively towns alternate with peaceful stretches through tropical vegetation. Wide views over Uganda’s green landscape open up repeatedly. By afternoon, the group reaches Fort Portal at the foot of the Rwenzori Mountains.
Distance: approx. 400 km
Day 12: Fort Portal – Ishasha
The route follows the impressive backdrop of the Rwenzori Mountains, whose summits rank among the highest in Africa. Parts of the stage run on basic roads and tracks, which add to its riding character. Riders experience a varied mix of twisting sections, rural villages, and densely vegetated landscapes. The road leads through a remote region of Uganda with very little traffic. The destination is the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park.
Distance: approx. 180 km
Day 13: Ishasha – Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
After a possible morning game drive, the route continues through an increasingly mountainous landscape. The road winds through green hills, small villages, and dense vegetation. Twisty sections and steady elevation changes make this a particularly rewarding stage for motorcyclists. With every bend, the landscape becomes wilder and more densely forested. The destination is the area around Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
Distance: approx. 150 km
Day 14: Bwindi
The day belongs entirely to Bwindi National Park. An optional gorilla trek can be arranged, offering the chance to observe one of the last free-living mountain gorilla populations in the world. Alternatively, excursions into the surrounding mountain region are possible, such as visits to Lake Mutanda or Lake Bunyonyi. The landscape is defined by steep hills, small villages, and deep greenery. The day offers time to experience the unique atmosphere of this remote region.
Day 15: Bwindi – Kibuye
Today’s route passes through the mountainous border region between Uganda and Rwanda. The road winds through green hills, small villages, and terraced agricultural landscapes. Sweeping views over the volcanic Virunga Mountains appear repeatedly. After crossing the border at Cyanika, the group follows winding roads through Rwanda’s hilly terrain. The destination is Kibuye on the shores of Lake Kivu.
Distance: approx. 210 km
Day 16: Kibuye – Kigali
The route passes through Rwanda’s dramatic hill country, which is not without reason called the “Land of a Thousand Hills.” Riders enjoy an almost continuously twisting road with constant elevation changes. The road snakes through green hill ranges, small settlements, and agricultural terraces. Wide views over the landscape open up repeatedly. By afternoon, the group reaches Kigali.
Distance: approx. 130 km
Day 17: Kigali – Nakatunga
In the morning, the group leaves Kigali and follows National Road NR4 eastward. The route passes through Rwanda’s characteristically hilly landscape with numerous small villages and agricultural regions. Wide views over the green hills appear throughout the journey. At the Rusumo border crossing, exit formalities are completed and the Rwandan guide says goodbye. The group then crosses into Tanzania. At the Rusumo border post, the group meets the Tanzanian guide who will accompany the next section of the trip. After entry formalities, a short stage leads through northwestern Tanzania through a rural region of small settlements and farmland. The destination for the evening is Nakatunga, where the group spends its first night in Tanzania. The shorter riding day provides a good chance to prepare for the longer stages ahead.

Day 18: Nakatunga – Kigoma
A long stage lies ahead through the west of Tanzania. The road passes through sparsely populated regions with vast landscapes and very little traffic. Long stretches allow for smooth, steady riding through the open surroundings. Small villages and markets dot the route along the way. The day’s destination is Kigoma on the shores of Lake Tanganyika.
Distance: approx. 440 km
Day 19: Kigoma
The rest day in Kigoma offers a chance to recover after the previous day’s long stage. The town sits directly on Lake Tanganyika, one of the largest and deepest lakes in Africa. Optional excursions are available, including a visit to the Dr. Livingstone Memorial or historic Ujiji. A boat trip on the lake or an excursion to Gombe National Park are also possible. The day provides time to enjoy the unique atmosphere of this remote region.
Day 20: Kigoma – Mpanda
The route continues through the remote west of Tanzania. The road passes through vast savannah landscapes and small settlements with very little traffic. Riders experience an intense sense of space and solitude here. Long stretches lead through original regions well off the main transport arteries. By afternoon, the group reaches Mpanda on the edge of Katavi National Park.
Distance: approx. 300 km
Day 21: Mpanda – Sumbawanga
Today’s stage leads through one of Tanzania’s most remote regions. The route passes through wide savannah landscapes and along small settlements with very little traffic. For motorcycle riders, this stage creates a special sense of calm and vastness. Long-distance views over the open landscape open up repeatedly. The destination is Sumbawanga in the southwestern highlands of the country.
Distance: approx. 260 km
Day 22: Sumbawanga – Isoka, Zambia
The route continues through the highlands of southwestern Tanzania towards the Zambian border. Along the way, the bikes pass through rural regions with small villages, fields, and sweeping landscapes. The stage gives a sense of the quiet daily life in this remote region. At the Tunduma border crossing, exit formalities are completed and the Tanzanian guide says goodbye. After entering Zambia, the group meets the Zambian guide who will lead the next section of the journey. The route continues southward through green highland scenery with small settlements and farmland. Traffic is usually light, giving a relaxed riding feel. The day’s destination is Isoka, a small town in northern Zambia, where the group spends its first evening in the country.

Day 23: Isoka – Mpika
The ride continues along the T2, one of Zambia’s most important north–south routes. The road passes through a varied landscape of forests, open savannahs, and small settlements. Along the way, local markets and typical roadside life are a regular sight. The stage gives a good feel for everyday life in rural Zambia. The destination for the day is Mpika.
Distance: approx. 280 km
Day 24: Mpika – Kapiri Mposhi
Today brings a long stage through Zambia’s central highlands. The route follows the T2, a key north–south artery of the country. Riders enjoy long, flowing stretches through varied landscapes. Open savannahs, small towns, and rural regions alternate throughout. By afternoon, the group reaches Kapiri Mposhi.
Distance: approx. 435 km
Day 25: Kapiri Mposhi – Lusaka
The route continues south via Kabwe towards Lusaka. Along the way, the bikes pass through agricultural regions and smaller towns. As the capital approaches, traffic gradually increases. By afternoon, the group reaches Lusaka, Zambia’s economic centre. The evening offers a chance to recover after the recent stages.
Distance: approx. 205 km
Day 26: Lusaka – Livingstone
The route heads through the wide landscapes of southern Zambia towards the Zambezi River. Long roads with light traffic allow for smooth, steady riding through open savannah country. Along the way, the bikes pass small settlements and local markets. With every stage, the group draws closer to the Zambezi and Victoria Falls. By afternoon, the group arrives in Livingstone.
Distance: approx. 480 km
Day 27: Livingstone
The free day in Livingstone offers the chance to visit one of Africa’s most famous natural wonders. Victoria Falls ranks among the greatest waterfalls in the world and lies just a few kilometres from the town. Additional excursions on the Zambezi are available, including sunset boat cruises. Scenic flights over the Falls are also possible. The day also serves as a rest before the stages ahead.
Day 28: Livingstone – Nata, Botswana
In the morning, the group leaves Livingstone and rides a short stretch to the Botswana border at Kazungula. The route follows the course of the Zambezi through open savannah. Exit formalities are completed at the border crossing, and the Zambian guide says farewell. With the border crossing, the next chapter of the journey in southern Africa begins. After crossing into Botswana, the group meets the guide who will lead the next section of the tour. The route follows well-maintained roads through the vast landscapes of northeastern Botswana. The surroundings are characterised by open savannahs and sparsely populated regions. Long, straight roads convey the immensity of this landscape. The day’s destination is Nata on the edge of the Makgadikgadi salt pans.
Distance: approx. 380 km
Day 29: Nata – Maun
The route continues westward through Botswana’s open landscapes. Via Gweta, the route follows a quiet highway through vast savannah scenery. The day’s destination is Maun, the gateway to the Okavango Delta. In the afternoon, there is optionally the chance to take a boat trip on the Thamalakane River. Scenic flights over the Okavango Delta are also available.
Distance: approx. 330 km
Day 30: Okavango Delta
Today is dedicated to an excursion into one of Africa’s most celebrated natural regions. Game vehicles lead into the Moremi Game Reserve on the edge of the Okavango Delta. The area is one of the most species-rich regions in southern Africa. During the game drives, numerous animal species can be observed in their natural habitat. The group returns to Maun in the evening.
Day 31: Maun – Ghanzi
Today’s stage leads through the vast landscapes of the Kalahari. Long, seemingly endless roads run through open plains with very little traffic. For motorcycle riders, this creates a special sense of space and freedom. The landscape feels calm and untouched, with the horizon stretching endlessly. By afternoon, the group reaches Ghanzi on the edge of the Kalahari.
Distance: approx. 320 km
Day 32: Ghanzi – Blouberg
Today marks the border crossing into Namibia. The route leads first to the Buitepos border post, where entry formalities are completed. The ride then continues through the wide landscapes of eastern Namibia. The surroundings are characterised by open plains, farmland, and vast horizons. The destination is a guest farm in the Blouberg area.
Distance: approx. 235 km
Day 33: Blouberg – Windhoek
The route continues through Namibia’s wide landscapes southward. Via Gobabis, the group eventually reaches Windhoek, the country’s capital. Open plains, farmland, and sparse traffic dominate the scenery. As the city draws closer, the surroundings gradually change. By afternoon, there is time to explore Windhoek.

Day 34: Windhoek
The day in Windhoek offers a break during the long journey through southern Africa. The capital blends colonial history with modern African urban development. Optional city walks or excursions into the surrounding area are available. A visit to traditional villages in the region is also possible. The day is for rest and preparation for the next stages.
Day 35: Windhoek – Swakopmund
From Windhoek, the route heads through Namibia’s wide landscapes towards the Atlantic coast. The road passes through the central highlands and later through increasingly dry stretches of the Namib Desert. Long curves, sweeping horizons, and very little traffic make this stage a truly special riding experience. As the coast approaches, the climate changes noticeably. The destination is Swakopmund, a coastal town with a distinctive historical character.
Distance: approx. 370 km
Day 36: Swakopmund – Sossusvlei
The stage begins along the Atlantic coast to Walvis Bay. The route then leads through the Namib-Naukluft National Park into the interior. Riders experience a spectacular combination of coastal scenery, canyon sections, and desert. Particularly impressive is the ride through Kuiseb Canyon with its dramatic rock formations. At the destination, the famous dune landscapes of Sossusvlei await the group.
Distance: approx. 345 km
Day 37: Sossusvlei
The day begins with the opportunity to explore the dune landscape of Sossusvlei. The region is one of Namibia’s most iconic destinations. Particularly impressive are the towering red sand dunes and the vast salt pans of the surrounding area. The nearby Sesriem Canyon can also be visited. The remainder of the day is free to enjoy in the desert region.
Day 38: Sossusvlei – Helmeringhausen
In the morning, there is one more opportunity to experience the dune landscape of Sossusvlei. The route then continues through the wide landscapes of southern Namibia. The road passes through open desert and semi-desert regions with impressive long-range views. For motorcyclists, it is the long, peaceful stretches through this scenery that define this stage. The destination is the small settlement of Helmeringhausen.
Distance: approx. 270 km
Day 39: Helmeringhausen – Oranjemund
Today’s stage leads through one of Namibia’s most remote regions. The route passes via Aus and Rosh Pinah through a sparse, expansive landscape with very little traffic. Riders experience a particularly intense connection between road and landscape here. Wide plains alternate with rocky hills and dry valleys. By afternoon, the group reaches Oranjemund on the Orange River near the South African border.
Distance: approx. 370 km
Day 40: Oranjemund – Kamieskroon, South Africa
In the morning, the group crosses into South Africa via the Ernest Oppenheimer Bridge at Alexander Bay. The route then follows the west coast via Port Nolloth through the rugged landscape of Namaqualand. Rocky hills, wide plains, and small settlements characterise the scenery along the way. Via Springbok, the group eventually reaches Kamieskroon. The region is known for its distinctive desert landscape.

Day 41: Kamieskroon – Clanwilliam
In the morning, an optional visit to Namaqua National Park is possible. The route then continues south along the N7. The road passes through a varied landscape of mountains, open plains, and agricultural regions. Vegetation changes gradually along the way. The day’s destination is Clanwilliam on the edge of the Cederberg region.
Distance: approx. 270 km
Day 42: Clanwilliam – Cape Town
The final riding stage continues along the west coast of South Africa. The route passes through smaller coastal towns and offers repeated views out over the Atlantic. Via St. Helena Bay and Bloubergstrand, the group approaches Cape Town. The view of Table Mountain on the approach to the city is particularly memorable. By afternoon, the long overland route ends at the southern tip of the African continent.

Day 43: Cape Town
The first free day in Cape Town offers countless opportunities to explore the region. The city ranks among the most beautiful in Africa, nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and Table Mountain. Optional excursions to the Cape Peninsula are available. Particularly famous is the spectacular coastal road of Chapman’s Peak Drive. Alternatively, there is time for individual exploration of the city.
Day 44: Cape Town
Another free day provides the chance to explore Cape Town’s surroundings. The wine regions around Stellenbosch and Franschhoek are particularly well known. The landscape is shaped by vineyards, mountains, and historic wine estates. Further city sights can also be visited. The day invites riders to wind down the journey in a relaxed atmosphere.
Day 45: Cape Town
The day marks the conclusion of this epic journey across Africa. The bikes are prepared and handed over for the return transport. There is also time to enjoy the final days in Cape Town. In the evening, the group gathers for a shared farewell dinner, reflecting together on the impressions of the past weeks.
Day 46: Cape Town
On the last day, the shared journey comes to an end. After breakfast, participants make their individual transfers to the airport. From Cape Town, everyone begins the journey home. Behind them lie several thousand kilometres through some of Africa’s most extraordinary landscapes – a truly unique adventure.
